Following the successful delivery of the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Managing Olympic Sport Organisation (MOSO) levels I & II, the PNG MOSO III is expected to begin in March 2023.
This follows on from the OSEP’s Managing in Sport Organizations (MiSO) in Port Moresby which will be completed at the Institute of Business Studies University campus at 6 Mile, Port Moresby from the 5th – 6th November 2022.
The final 2 Modules are Marketing & Public Relations and Planning. Focusing on building up the administrative capacities of the 40 National Federations (NF) affiliated with the PNG Olympic Committee, these courses are aimed at upskilling current NF executives to encourage them to pursue succession plans and mentoring pathways for their sport’s retiring elite athletes and dedicated volunteers. It targets sports executives and volunteers that are actively involved in working with clubs or federations.
Attendance will only be for any National Federation that meets course criteria to endorse three (3) candidates. Following current best practice globally, each NF Team of candidates will be required to take back the learning and implement it immediately in their individual NF in between the different Modules.
The PNG MOSO III has 6 modules which will be delivered through a schedule of weekends. These will be delivered by certified and recognized facilitators with the inclusion of past PNG MOSO graduates that will be required to tutor participants.
PNGOC General Secretary Auvita Rapilla said that the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Papua New Guinea was the only Oceania member country that was active in the delivery of the Managing Sport Organisation Course which is a Sports Management Diploma Program of the International Olympic Committee.
“It is a great motivator for us and therefore we are looking to run a successful PNG MOSO III next year with a good number of participants. We invite National Federations to nominate three (3) members of their Executive and ensure gender balance in their nominations”.
With the 3-member Team from nominating NFs, we hope to see results transform the administration and operations of participating NFs through this training programme.
The PNGOC has been delivering the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Diploma programme since 2016 with five (5) pioneer graduates in PNG MOSO I and twelve (12) in PNG MOSO II. Out of a total graduate cohort of 17 from the sports of Cricket, Wushu, Swimming, Netball, Touch, Softball, Handball, Gymnastics, Basketball, Triathlon, Karate, Tae Kwon Do and staff of the PNG Sport Foundation, it was pleasing to see that 11 were females while 10 participants were Executives in National Federations.
Based on their performance, the current participants in the OSEP MiSO programme have a great opportunity to continue onto the PNG MOSO III. Nominations are now open and will close on the 30th of November 2022.
