The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) proudly congratulated five exceptional individuals from the PNG Managing Olympic Sport Organizations (MOSO) III cohort, who have successfully completed the Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC), commonly referred to as MOSO. This flagship educational Diploma program of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) equips sports leaders with essential management skills to advance sports development in Papua New Guinea.
The MOSO program, delivered by PNGOC since 2015, empowers participants to effectively manage Olympic sports organizations by covering six key modules: Organizing an Olympic Sport Organization, Managing Strategically, Managing Human Resources, Managing Finance, Managing Marketing, and Organizing a Major Sport Event. The course is conducted over 18 to 20 months with sessions facilitated by experienced experts from PNG.
The graduates are Rutha Omenefa, Miskus Eadique Lapan, Jeffrey Robby (Vice President of PNG Weightlifting Federation), Ian Soweni (Junior Vice President of Softball PNG), and Hylane Tamarua (PNGOC Staff & Admin with PNG Kungfu Wushu Federation). The program builds capacity for National Olympic Committees and their constituents, empowering sports managers to implement innovative strategies and impactful changes within their organizations. It is designed for volunteers or paid staff, including executives at the NOC, national federations, and staff responsible for managing sports programs.
Jeffrey Robby, Vice President of Weightlifting Federation PNG, expressed his gratitude, stating:
“With the knowledge I've gained, I will try to help improve our sport... not only in sport but also in my job and family matters. It was a tough course, juggling work, education, and family, but we got through. Thank you to PNG Olympic Committee and all who supported us.”
Desmond Kaviagu, PNGOC Secretary General emphasized on PNGOC’s dedication towards sports development in the country:
“At the PNGOC, our commitment to sports development is clear. Through the MOSO program, we are empowering leaders with the skills to bring transformative change to our sporting community and in turn inspire change for a brighter future in Papua New Guinea sports”
PNG MOSO now has a total of 16 recipients, and PNGOC hopes to add more to the list in the upcoming MOSO IV, scheduled for October 2025, encouraging passionate sports leaders to seize this opportunity for growth and development.
