Second batch of MOSO participants graduate

Another milestone event was celebrated with the 2nd Graduation of participating students of the International Olympic Committee's flagship training course - the Advanced Sport Management Course or also known as the Managing Olympic Sport Organizations (MOSO), this is Papua New Guinea's MOSO II.

12 (7 women and 5 men) participants successfully completed MOSO II, they include Presidents and elite athletes retiring from National Sports Federations (NFs), and executives / senior officers from sports organizations. These include Nick Daroa, President of Basketball Federation PNG, Stephen Damien, CEO, BFPNG, Hannah Bennett, Gymnastics POM as work towards setting up the Gymnastics Federation PNG, Nancy Palin, Women's Softball Port Moresby, Vavine Yore, elite athlete, Touch PNG, Cheryl Amini Kalo, Cricket PNG, Nigel Bana, elite athlete, Karate PNG, John Cholai, President, Tae Kwon Do PNG, Iammo Launa, OBE, interim President, Olympians Federation, Mary Nauga, PNG Sports Foundation and Port Moresby Hockey, Chris Amini, Cricket PNG & PNG Olympic Committee, and Kilala Sunema Owen, elite athlete, Netball PNG.    

PNG was the first Pacific Island nation to start delivering this course in 2015. Fiji followed later. It is delivered by Papua New Guinea's own trained facilitators supported where able, by invited international facilitators. Local facilitators include partners of the PNGOC, the University of Institute of Business Studies lecturers - Dr. Milfred Lopez and Dr. Ramachandran Arunachalam, invited facilitator Atma Maharaz from Fiji while the rest are Auvita Rapilla, Secretary General, PNGOC, Andrew Lepani from PNGOC, John Susuve and Peter Chalapan from the PNG Sports Foundation and private consulting trainers, Kinivanagi Karo and Mary Handen.

The course consists of 6 modules delivered over 6 weekends and are; - Managing an Olympic Sport Organization, Managing Strategically, Managing Human Resources, Managing Finance, Managing Marketing and Hosting a Sporting Event.

Congratulations to the graduands! A great story of the 1st graduands of MOSO I is that the only male of that group – Clarence Palin has more to be happy about as his wife Nancy Palin graduates in the second lot.
